People work themselves into a froth about all things biblical. Some even get worked up about which translation is "the" translation. (Hint: none of them are flawless.) This guy believes in the King James (hey, if it was good enough for Jesus...)...

I couldn't watch the whole thing. But basically, his stance is that being a man is all about standing up while you pee and that's what's wrong with the world: too many men are sitting down to piss. Enjoy!

<lj-embed id="1" />

So what's "Commie Pink" anyhow?

I guess I could approach this as a sort of FAQ.

Isn't it supposed to be "Commie Red"?

Well, in terms of this blog, no. This LJ is actually focused on not only atypical Marxist thought (i.e., democratic socialism, in particular), but also questions of humanity, equality and religion - specifically (though not exclusively) questions related to socialism, feminism and Christianity and the interplay of the three. I thought of calling it "Commie Fish," but in retrospect, while I appreciate the implied symbolism . . . that's pretty dumb.

So are you some kind of feminazi, man-hating liberal super hero who burns her bras and castrates men for fun?

Actually, no. I lack super powers and, if I could choose them, bra burning and castration would not be among them. Bra burning is ill-advised in my case as I am a) asthmatic and b) well-endowed. Castration is illegal and messy. And time-consuming (... I'm assuming).

Actually, I quite like guys. I just happen to think that they are no better and no worse than the women who inhabit the world alongside them.

How can you be a liberal AND a Christian?

It's not that hard, really. I think God's a liberal, concerned with social welfare, justice and compassion. I think that the stereotypical neo-conservative Christian-isms are pretty inconsistent with the Bible and the nature of God - so I guess I'd ask how can you be Christian and NOT be liberal?

Doesn't the Christian thing mean you're Republican and against abortion and women's rights and are closed-minded and don't believe in evolution?

Actually, it kind of breaks down like this:

No political party has a corner on the God market.

The Bible doesn't actually forbid or condemn or otherwise vilify abortion.

The Bible also has nothing to say about evolution.

Jesus was in favor of human equality - male and female.

"Close-mindedness" is a refusal to consider views beyond your own as having validity or possibility. You don't have to be conservative or Christian to be closed-minded - there's plenty going around.

.

What's wrong with capitalism?

.... bit loaded, that. I'm not actually proposing we do away with a capitalist market structure. First off, that'd take a revolution and if castrations are time consuming and messy, revolutions are apocalyptic. I think the problem is, in fact, more with the capitalist mindset, the "me first" attitude we so easily succumb to. I think there's a huge problem with that.

What makes you think you know what you're talking about?

Well, even if I didn't, would I have any less right to say it? I can't make you read it and I certainly can't make you agree with me, but by the same token, you can't make me stop nor can you force your beliefs onto me. However, I actually do have a bit of credential-y stuff behind me. Feel free to ask for more detail if you like.

I want to send you hate mail.

LJ provides plenty of room for that. Leave a comment, send a message via my profile page or try communist (dot) pink at gmail. I promise to read it, but not necessarily to respond - to hate mail, at least. If you have a valid argument, point and/or question, I'll do my best.

Basic "ground rules":

I don't care for drama. I love intelligent discussion from differing points of view, but I'm not much with the mud-slinging and name calling and that sort of pre-adolescent, schoolyard behavior. I don't ban people randomly - certainly not for disagreeing. But being an ass will likely find me at the console and you with a ban_set next to your name.

What constitutes "being an ass"? Well, I'll admit, it's a little bit of a grey area. It kind of falls under that "do unto others" rule - Buddha, Jesus, whoever floats your boat. Also, if your mama told you not to do it in polite company, you probably oughtn't to do it here, either.

Far from a dictatorship, though (because, really, how hypocritical would that be?) this is a microcosm of society. And a democratic sort at that. Think I've been unfair or been an ass myself? Tell me. I'm open to peace talks. ^_^
